Daniel Henstra

Dr. Daniel Henstra is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Waterloo. His research focuses on the governance of complex policy areas such as climate change adaptation, emergency management and flood risk management. He has more than 20 years of experience in applied policy analysis. Mr Henstra is co-lead of the Climate Risk Research Group (CRRG), an interdisciplinary research team that partners with public and private sector organizations to develop practical, evidence-based policy advice for managing climate-related challenges.

In 2018 and 2019, Mr Henstra served on the National Working Group on Financial Risk of Flooding, a joint initiative of Public Safety Canada and the Insurance Bureau of Canada, which evaluated options to manage flood costs of residential properties in high-risk areas of Canada. He is currently leading a national study on governance arrangements to achieve critical infrastructure (CI) resilience in a changing climate. It combines spatial analysis and comparative case studies of five provinces and CI sectors.
